Schools Meet-Up Highlights - June 15, 2026: Let's Talk About Extreme Heat in Schools & What We Can Do About It

At our recent Schools Group meeting on June 15, parents and caregivers from across the country gathered to explore the topic of extreme heat in schools. Our Atlantic Organizer, Jackie McVicar, provided an overview of our Hot Schools, Cool Solutions campaign in Nova Scotia and the concerns for children’s health and well-being from extreme heat events. The presentation also highlighted the main issues in schools when it comes to mitigating extreme heat - including inadequate indoor and outdoor infrastructure and a lack of policies or guidance for schools and decision-makers - and how parents and caregivers can mobilize their school community and collaborate with schools allies to demand transparency and to advocate for solutions and climate-forward policies.
