Corey Helm and Claire Kraatz call for climate leadership in National Observer

September 2026

Corey Helm (For Our Kids Toronto member and For Our Kids' schools organizer) and Claire Kraatz (For Our Kids Alberta and For Our Kids' clean air campaign organizer) have published an op-ed in Canada's National Observer entitled "Mark Carney's climate rollbacks are an attack on parents and children." In it, Corey and Claire explain that, by refusing to effectively address climate change, the federal government is abandoning its responsibilities to our children. They write:

Fast-tracking a massive expansion of fossil fuel production under the guise of “national interest” and “cooperative federalism,” all while our families endure summers of dangerous heat, flooding, smoke and increased climate anxiety, is a profound betrayal of current and future generations. Relying on unproven and costly carbon capture technologies to justify the pipeline expansion isn’t climate leadership — it’s a risky gamble with our planet and our children's future.

Our leaders owe it to current and future generations to make energy choices and climate policies based on widely accepted climate science and on proven solutions such as renewable energy, battery storage, energy efficiency, electrification and modern electricity and grid infrastructure — solutions that are being adopted around the world at record-setting rates.
