Picture a lush, green forest that’s bursting with life. This ecosystem thrives because of its mycelium -- an underground network of fungal threads connecting plants and trees at their roots, enabling them to share nutrients and information.
“Mother trees” often play outsize roles in sustaining forest ecosystems. These older trees serve as mycelial hubs, storing up nutrients to share with younger trees at critical moments for survival and growth.
If the global climate movement is a mycelial network, then parents, grandparents, and caregivers are some of its mother trees. Motivated by a fierce love for our children, we play a vital role in nurturing, sustaining, and advancing climate justice.
