Winter Wonderland at the Ottawa Carleton Wildlife Centre

Snowshoe beginningOn February 24 2024, our ottawa/gatineau chapter went to a family-friendly Nature discovery workshop with the Ottawa -Carleton Wildlife Centre (OCWC). The ages ranged from very young to young at heart.

Our cold winter visit started with a fun interpretive snowshoe adventure through the woods under bluebird skies followed by an engaging educational  presentation while we drank hot chocolate. We learned about some of the amazing species that we share our spaces with. The presentation included lots of pictures, videos and animal sounds. Informal trivia and colouring table also made for great participation and conversation for a very memorable day.

Kate MacNeil (the executive director of OCWC) was our guide and educator that day. She was excellent at engaging the kids whether it was with animal quizzes while outside or inside with the animal puppets.

The Ottawa-Carleton Wildlife Centre has been educating people about wildlife and helping to foster an appreciation of the natural world for over 35 years When we learn to coexist with other species it allows us to connect and enjoy the natural world. There is growing evidence of the benefits nature has to offer people of all ages. It is far reaching, encompassing mind, body and spirit.

Inspired to take action - now is a great opportunity to help ensure that Ottawa's Wildlife Strategy protects wildlife and finds ways that all of us can safely cohabit.  Act now as the Wildlife Strategy is going to City Council this summer.  Check out this link to send an email to your councillor.
