Heat Pumps and Hot Chocolate Tour a success!
On February 21, For Our Kids Ottawa-Gatineau and Electrify613 hosted a great Heat Pumps and Hot Chocolate Tour in Hintonburg.
Heat pumps are cool … and also keep us toasty warm! Organizing a tour of homes with heat pumps in Ottawa in February (while sipping hot chocolate) was a great way to help more people get comfortable with the technology and the idea that it is possible to keep your home comfortable and warm, while significantly or completely reducing your home's use of fossil fuels.
The tour was also directly in-line with our ongoing campaign for all-electric buildings in Ottawa (sign our petition to Ottawa City Council HERE!).

We started and ended the tour in Hintonburg Park and visited with two homeowners, Dave and Phil, who shared their experiences installing and living with a heat pump. We toured both a home with a hybrid heat pump system and a home completely off gas with a cold-climate air-source heat pump. There was lots of great discussion, good questions and we think it is safe to say, everyone went away with more information and a better sense of how to take the next steps in electrifying their home's heating system!
If you're based in Ottawa and want to do more reading around Heat Pumps, this website put together by our friends at CAFES Ottawa has lots of good info and the “Ottawa Heat Pump Consumer Guide 2025” is available for download.
