Parents from Across Canada Join our Electric School Bus Parent Advocacy Group

Earlier this month, parents from across Canada gathered for the first meeting of our Electric School Bus Parent Advocacy Group. The meeting was a great opportunity for parents in our Network to get to know each other, to learn more about electric school buses (ESBs) in Canada, and to share their motivations for joining the group: concern for their children’s health and immense love for all children and our planet.

Every day in Canada, millions of children ride a bus to school; most of them ride on diesel buses and are breathing in harmful air pollutants. Diesel buses also emit carbon dioxide, the primary driver of the climate crisis. ESBs can help clean the air for our kids and communities and reduce harmful emissions from transportation. To learn more about ESBs, check out the For Our Kids ESB Campaign and ESB Resources

Through this advocacy group, a working group of the Canadian Electric School Bus Alliance (CESBA), parent voices will be brought into ESB policy and advocacy conversations and will help support the adoption of ESBs across the country. At For Our Kids, we believe that through collective action and concern for children’s well-being and health, parents can bring urgency and legitimacy to ESB adoption and systemic change. The parents in the group are excited to be working together to create a cleaner, healthier future for our kids.

Miranda Keller, a parent and For Our Kids Alberta Team member, had this to say about the advocacy group: "Electrifying public school transportation will improve the health of our kids, our communities, and our bus drivers. I am excited to work with other parents across the country to achieve a great solution to some big problems." Our ESB advocacy group currently has parent representatives from Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, and Nova Scotia. Thank you to Erin, Megan, Melanie, Miranda, Mitchell, and Jean-Marc! We are grateful for your participation.
