For Our Kids is hosting a Phone Zap twice on Tuesday, November 10 to Stop Bill C-39!
What is Bill C-39? Bill C-39, the “Building Canada Strong Act,” was introduced in the House of Commons in September 2026 and has passed two readings. It proposes changes to a wide range of federal laws and creates new legal frameworks intended to accelerate major economic projects, including oil pipelines and other projects with significant environmental impacts. The bill allows the environment minister to permit limited construction activities on major projects before environmental assessments are complete and the creation of zones of "national interest" - sacrifice zones - which could completely pass the usual assessment process. These are not short term guidelines: If approved, the legal changes made by Bill C39 will have generational impacts. The proposed legislation will mean less time for meaningful consultation with affected communities and Indigenous Rights Holders, and changes to labour laws affecting workers.
What's a Phone Zap? A phone zap is a way to take collective action on issues that matter. After logging in on November 10, we will give a brief overview of Bill C-39 and share key points we want to make to Members of Parliament - who will soon be voting on the bill. Then, we will provide you will the contact information for your MP as well as other key MPs and Senators to call. There will be time to ask questions. Then, in community, we will make our calls. We'll debrief before signing off. Whether you are a seasoned caller, or this is your first time reaching out directly to your MP, you are welcome!
