Calling all Land Defenders to Action - Monday, May 24
We are members of Parents4Climate, in Victoria BC. who watch and listen with alarm and distress as RCMP started to close off access to the Fairy Creek watershed.
Having spent time at the Fairy Creek Headquarters camp in the past few weeks, we can attest to the deep commitment of the land defenders who have spent so many days keeping watch and putting their bodies and spirits on the line for our ancient forests.
Currently unable to go there ourselves, we have created an urban action in Victoria and around BC. We want to show our solidarity with the Indigenous peoples and the land defenders so they know they are being supported in what ever way we can.
Come out to the Legislature on May 24th, 11-1, and plant a forest on the lawn!
This is a chance to show your solidarity for Indigenous sovereignty and the old growth defenders at the Fairy Creek Blockades and the Old Growth Forests they have protected for 288 days!
Please use all Covid Protocols and wear a mask if you feel you can not keep physical distance from others.
-
Dress in green and brown, bring a cardboard tree on a stake to plant, listen to some speakers, and show your support for the protection of our ancient forests.
-
A “tree making station” will be available with hand sanitizing station and Covid distancing protocols in place.
-
For those who can not attend this action we encourage you to “plant a tree” at your MLA’s office or mail a cardboard tree to Horgan’s office and let him know this is not acceptable. You can also email him at: [email protected]
We would like to acknowledge that this event will take place on the unceded territory of the Lekwungen speaking peoples.
