Parents 4 Climate spring event recap

June 2025

Parents 4 Climate is a For Our Kids team in Victoria, British Columbia, and they've had a busy spring and early summer! Read on for a recap of their recent events and activitie.

Invasive Species Pulls

In May, P4C gathered families in Banfield Park for two different Invasive Species Pulls! Together, participants removed invasive species in order to help protect native species, preserve species diversity and enhance ecosystem benefits. The City of Victoria provided tools and training. The pulls were a fun way for families with kids to connect with nature and learn about their local ecosystems.

Tabling at Earth Tones

Also in May, P4C hosted a booth at Earth Tones, a concert for climate action that featured a performance by the Meridiem Wind Orchestra. The P4C booth provided concertgoers with pre-stamped postcards addressed to BC Premier David Eby, on which they could write their demands for provincial climate action. Participants were entered into a contest to win a gift certificate to the new Craft & Upcycling Shop at the Victoria Women In Need Community Cooperative.

At the concert, a chef worked with a dozen students to plate 900 pounds of food that would have otherwise gone to the landfill -- which fed 300 people!

April Events: Hot Mess, Egg Dyeing, Bike Festival

In April, the P4C team hosted a Book Club event with Sarah Marie Wiebe, author of Hot Mess: Mothering Through a Code Red Climate Emergency. After the talk, participants made art from linocuts that had been designed to match each of the chapters in the book! They gifted prints to Sarah as a thank you, and plan to now share other prints as a way of encouraging climate action.

The team also hosted a natural egg dyeing event (who knew that cabbage water makes eggs blue!), plus a Bike Festival where members and friends rode to a local park to celebrate bike culture.
