It's time for Ottawa to join cities across Canada and around the world in endorsing the global Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty (FFNPT).
The treaty calls for:
-
ending new fossil fuel exploration and expansion
-
phasing out existing production in line with the global commitment to limit warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, and
-
accelerating a just and equitable transition to a low-carbon future so no community is left behind.
It's already been endorsed by Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Victoria, New Westminster, Burnaby, Richmond, North and West Vancouver city councils, and by cities around the world.
Ottawa Councillor Catherine McKenney is bringing a motion of endorsement to Council on June 21st. There are three ways you can voice your support for this important motion and show that citizens of Ottawa are behind the global call for a transition to a more sustainable, just and equitable future for kids!
