Mothers Day Reflections

Love and gratitude from For Our Kids Co-Director Wyanne Sandler

My eldest child came into the world just before Mother’s Day, and changed my life forever.  Amidst all the feelings of new motherhood, the thing I most remember is my immense love and awe at this tiny human.  I couldn’t stop looking at him.

Becoming a mom changed the horizon of my life, and awakened in me a steadfast resolve to create the best possible world for my own kids, the other children I know and those I don’t, and those not yet born.  I see around me all the time that fierce mama bear spirit as I see mothers on the frontlines, protecting and defending the people and places we love, and building more caring and resilient communities.

From my own mother, and the many mother figures in my life, I learned a deep love of nature, saw and experienced what it meant to be a good neighbour and build community, and to stand up for what I believe in.  I am immensely grateful to them, and to this incredible community of mothers and other caregivers at For Our Kids that I get to be part of.  Every day I am inspired and grateful for the wisdom, generosity, care, and commitment of the mothers in our movement.

Thank you for all you do for your children, families, communities, and for Mother Earth.

If you’re looking for a way to recognize the climate-conscious moms, grandmothers, or other mother figures in your life in a meaningful way, consider a donation to a cause they care about.  If that cause is family-centred climate action, we’re happy to send a personalized digital card for every donation made in honour of the special mother figures in your life.

Thank you to all the moms who make our movement grow.
