"Beyond Ecological Grief" podcast features voices from For Our Kids network

July 2026

Beyond Ecological Grief is a six-part podcast, hosted by Amy Romer and produced by Canada's National Observer, investigating the emotional realities of living through a planetary health crisis. Guided by the five stages of grief, each episode follows a personal story — from scientists to land defenders and youth — whose ties to land and history shape how they respond to a rapidly changing world. Intimate interviews and in-depth reporting trace how eco-grief shows up as denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. When the place that shaped you is threatened — or destroyed — what does it take to keep going and take action?

Episode 4 is entitled "For Our Kids." Fittingly, it features an extensive interview with Jinhwa Hwong-Ambrose, For Our Kids' Team Development Manager. Jinhwa speaks with courage and vulnerability about her journey toward becoming a climate conscious mom who, motivated by her fierce love for her child, has dedicated herself to organizing the parent-led climate movement.

"Now my life has two main purposes", Jinhwa recalls saying to herself when her child was a baby, still reeling from the shock of reading the IPCC special report -- "to be the best mom I can be, and also for the rest of my life to do everything I could around climate change.

The episode also features interviews with two other For Our Kids members, Brittany Hopkins and Jess Lenihan, who share insights into their climate journeys as well. And well-known climate scientist Britt Wray helps situate these very personal stories in concepts and theories from climate psychology.

Bravo to Jinhwa, Brittany, Jess, and Britt for putting the feelings that so many of us share into context -- and to Amy Romer and the National Observer for producing such a powerful podcast series.
