We work hard to create healthy homes for our families - and we're being undermined at home by gas. It's time to reduce pollution, lower monthly bills and build all-electric new homes and buildings.
Just like a gas plant, gas appliances vent harmful fumes directly into our yards and homes. Pollution from gas appliances is linked to childhood asthma, reproductive complications, climate change, and more. Kids and seniors are particularly at risk.
The good news is: better alternatives are ready to go, like electric heat pumps, electric water heaters, and induction stoves. And in a typical home, they will also lower monthly energy bills.
But new buildings are still being built with gas hook-ups, guaranteeing more air pollution and climate pollution. The end result: Families are on the hook for expensive and inconvenient upgrades and renters are just stuck.
New homes in Ottawa should be updated to match modern, environmentally sustainable all-electric standards. By showing our support for these standards, parents and families can compel City Council to do the right thing.
