Farewell from Gabrielle

March 2026

After close to four years with For Our Kids, I’m wrapping up my time as a national support team organizer. While it’s hard to leave, I’m so appreciative of this formative time, and all the experiences and lessons I’m taking forward.

When I first got invited to join the For Our Kids team in 2022, I remember being so grateful and excited to find work that aligned with my values. What soon became clear, however, was that the best part of this job would be the people  – people (like you) who take action everyday in big and small ways to protect the people and places we love, fight back against the forces that jeopardize our collective future, and envision (and practice!) a different way of doing things.

Over the course of my time here, I’ve had the pleasure of working with members of the network across the country on all kinds of campaigns, events and actions. Each time, I learn new things, and I’m continually floored by the commitment, energy, creativity and generosity that For Our Kids volunteers bring to this work.

Not only are our teams and network incredibly effective at demanding accountability and making good trouble, but our actions set a different horizon for what’s possible.

Whether it’s bringing people together to demand the climate policies we need, building community gardens and organizing nature walks, or showing up with our kids and banners to support other movements and struggles, every little piece of this work enacts a world that’s kinder, more just, and also more fun. It’s the perfect antidote to despair in a difficult time, and a reminder that we’re slowly building something bigger and more important than any single fight.

I’m a proud auntie (not a parent), and before I joined For Our Kids, I often wondered how people manage to juggle community organizing and parenting. It doesn’t seem easy, especially in a world that devalues care work, but I’m now totally convinced that parents and caregivers are some of the best organizers of all – expert task managers with incredible event planning skills, who make everyone from toddlers to great-grandparents feel welcome, and bring the perfect blend of no-nonsense and humour to this work. Protecting our kids’ future is serious, but the way we fight for it can and should also hold the joy, silliness, patience and care that it takes to be part of a family and a community. I feel so lucky to have learned from this in practice.

Thank you so much for working alongside me and sharing your time, skills and stories over the past few years. Hope to see each other out there again soon!

With much gratitude,

Gabrielle
