BMO’s slogan is “boldly grow the good,” and they say they care about sustainability and supporting communities. At the same time, as one of the top fossil fuel funders in the world, they’re driving the climate crisis. Last year, BMO took the 13th spot for fossil fuel financing globally, and had one of the worst ratios of dirty energy to clean energy funding.
We know that BMO cares about their reputation, and they could be a climate leader among the banks if they wanted to. But, they need a push from families like us to do the right thing, stop greenwashing and actually take climate action.
Let’s tell BMO’s CEO Darryl White to “grow the good” by:
- Phasing out fossil fuel financing
- Tripling investments in renewable and clean energy
- Enshrining respect for Indigenous rights in all financing decisions
We’ve heard that banks move as a pack. If we can push BMO to make these crucial changes, the rest of the big banks will be more likely to follow!
Here's what you can do:

You can even do this as an activity with your kids!
- Draw or describe what you / your kids would want in a bright, earth-friendly future. Maybe that includes beautiful, green spaces for kids to play and fresh air. Maybe it also includes things like renewable energy, public transportation, and affordable green housing.
