April Updates from For Our Kids Vancouver

April 2026

As always, the For Our Kids Vancouver team has been busy engaging in parent-led climate action in Vancouver and beyond! Here are some recent highlights and ways to get involved:

Meeting with Premier Eby as part of Vancouver Point Grey Climate Team

On February 27, For Our Kids Vancouver members joined the Vancouver-Point Grey Riding Climate Team to meet with the riding’s MLA, Premier David Eby. The group presented findings from a survey that finds “extreme” concern about climate change is common amongst local residents – as is a desire for BC to prioritize:

  • Phasing Out Fossil Fuels and strengthening environmental protection
  • Accelerating Clean Energy Transition
  • Greater Active and Mass Transportation Options

Premier Eby acknowledged the need to make stronger connections between affordability and the climate crisis, and has committed to continue meeting with the Vancouver-Point Grey Riding Climate Team.

Submissions from the People's Consultation on AI

Recently, For Our Kids and Parents for AI Caution in Educational Spaces (PACES) ran a community consultation about AI and children’s safety. Through this effort, the community articulated a set of recommendations, which the team then submitted to the Vancouver School Board. The recommendations were also delivered to the federal government along with dozens of other recommendations as part of the People’s Consultation on AI.

Check out the recommendations, and consider discussing them with your own elected officials!

Developing and implementing new organizing strategy

The team continues its strategic development journey, which will include a shift toward land-based organizing, as well as monthly meetings.

The next meeting is on May 24. Want to join? Email [email protected]

BC Heat Collaborative

Extreme heat is an increasing danger for residents of B.C. and much needs to be done to ensure the wellbeing of all residents. For Our Kids Vancouver is one of several groups in BC helping to organize a Heat Collaborative in BC, which will bring together individuals, grassroots groups, non-profit and other organizations to take a cross-sectional approach in advocating for livable temperatures for all.

The Collaborative will launch on May 6 from 4:00 to 5:30pm PT with a virtual event entitled Let’s Talk Heat - A Dialogue to Help Launch a BC Heat Collaborative. Interested in taking part?

Continuing work on climate education

The team continues to advocate for meaningful climate justice education in schools across BC. Members of For Our Kids Vancouver recently met with staff from the province’s Ministry of Education. They are now preparing for an upcoming meeting with Minister Lisa Beare herself.
