What is Going On with For Our Kids Winnipeg This Month:

Come join Winnipeg Families who are passionate about climate justice as we celebrate Bike Month with a family bike ride in the Wolsley neighbourhood!

Where: École Laura Secord School Yard (960 Wolseley Ave)

When: Tuesday, June 23rd from 5:30-7:30 pm

For: play, snacks, climate justice conversation, and a brief community bike ride down Wolseley Ave (street speed limit is 30 km/h). We will bring drinks, utensils & plates, and snacks to share.

Cycling will start around 6:00 pm

To celebrate Bike Month, co-organizer Monika Rosney, will bring her family e-cargo bike for folks to ride if they'd like to try it out. The e-bike has seats for one adult, one big kid, and one little (age 1+).

Please bring your bikes, helmets, water bottles, and a snack to share.

Rainbows and Pride progress flags are welcome if you'd like to continue Pride enthusiasm. Indigenous members are welcome to bring medicines if folks wish to smudge. Please let us know if you'd like organizers to support arrangement of medicines for smudging.

A washroom is located at the end of the school yard at Robert A. Steen Community Centre (980 Palmerston Ave). The stairs have a lift for wheelchair accessibility.

As always, please let us know if you need any accommodations to attend and enjoy the event.

In case of heavy rain or storms, we will cancel the event and reschedule it in July.

Meet our Team Organizer!

My name is Paige Procter. My pronouns and she/her and I am a 32 year old paediatric nurse. My family and I are passionate about composting, active transportation (we love to cycle), growing sustainable food and supporting local! As a nurse I see the effects climate change has on the health of children and as a new mom I feel the inner struggle between wanting to be outside doing the things we love while also being mindful of how it could negatively impact our health. I am hopeful to raise a new generation of sustainable, climate conscious kids and I believe the way to start that is by modelling it to them at a young age! That's why I am passionate about FOK Winnipeg being a parent-led, kid- friendly group where our children can not only see us fighting against climate change but learn and actively participate alongside us! Making them part of the solution right from the beginning.
