What Support Can you Expect?

We're Here for You: What to Expect from Your Support Lead

When you start a For Our Kids team, we’re here to help. You’ll be connected with a Support Lead—someone from our network support team who’s here to cheer you on, answer your questions, and help your team get off to a strong and connected start.

Here’s what you can count on:

🤝 One-on-One Support

Your Support Lead will stay in touch with you by email, phone, or video call—and sometimes in person, depending on where you live. You may find it helpful to set up monthly check-ins as your team gets established.  Your Support Lead can help with things like:

  • Figuring out how to set up and structure your team
  • Brainstorming meaningful actions your team can take
  • Creating a welcoming, positive team culture
  • Working through challenges
  • Connecting with other local teams across our network

🛠️ Getting Comfortable with the Tools

Your Support Lead will walk you through the tools that help your team stay organized. Rather than using these tools for you, our goal is to help you and your team feel confident in using these tools.

  • NationBuilder: Teach you how to set up your team webpage, create event pages, and collect sign-ups
  • Slack Workspace for Team Organizers: Add you to Slack so you can connect with other volunteers across the network and swap ideas or encouragement
  • Resources: We’ll help you find everything you need on our website and shared Google Drive
  • Skill Building and Trainings: You can join periodic online sessions on things like communicating about climate change, and upskilling as community organizers

🌱 Connection & Community

You’ll also be invited to:

  • Bi-monthly Online Meetups: These gatherings, called Team Organizers’ Meetings, are a chance to meet other team members from across the country, share stories and strategies, and learn from one another

💸 Some Funding, Plus Amplified Reach

We want to make sure your team has what it needs to succeed. You’ll have access to:

  • Small Grants: Up to $500 a year per team to help cover the cost of things like supplies, printing, room rentals, or snacks (via a simple reimbursement form)
  • Amplifying Your Work: We love to celebrate and share what teams are doing—your actions can be featured on our website and on For Our Kids’ social media. Use this simple form to tell us about your actions - big and small! Sharing your activities is also incredibly helpful for For Our Kids as a network. Knowing what teams are doing on the ground helps us apply for future grants, report back to funders, and inspire other parents and teams across the network. In many ways, it’s essential to keeping our collective impact strong and visible.

Ongoing Support: We’re With You for the Long Haul

As your team grows and changes, your Support Lead will still be around to check in, offer help, or just be a sounding board. You can always reach out for:

  • One-on-one support and regular check-ins
  • Refresher trainings on NationBuilder, Slack, and other tools
  • Updates about new or helpful resources
  • Guidance on new ideas, challenges, or next steps
  • Support with designing projects, campaigns, and calls to action
  • Support with building leadership within the team, planning for leadership continuity and care, and navigating transitions
