Let’s talk! Schoolyard Climate Conversations
On Tuesday, Feb. 22 @ 7:30pm - 9:00pm, join facilitators from For Our Kids Toronto for a Schoolyard Climate Conversation!
Schoolyard Climate Conversations (SCCs) aim to engage parents, guardians, teachers and staff in school communities across Toronto in judgment-free conversations about climate change and its solutions.
With a focus on community climate action, SCCs have been developed to support the goals and initiatives of TransformTO – the City of Toronto’s climate action plan – and the Toronto District School Board’s brand new Youth Climate Action Guide, which supports student-led climate justice initiatives.
Recognizing that today’s youth will be deeply impacted by the effects of climate change over the course of their lives, and that youth are experiencing growing rates of anxiety and depression related to climate change, SCCs aim to help adults to better understand climate change and the actions that can be taken right now, together with young people, to advance solutions.
This initial conversation will provide you and your school community with information about efforts currently underway in Toronto to address climate change and advance social equity and help you start a discussion about how adults can support school climate action. By connecting with local groups and organizations, parents of high school and middle school students can help support student-led projects and parents of elementary students can explore possibilities for community actions in their own schools.
By building community in and around our schools, we can support the young people in our lives, nurture resilience as we come out of the pandemic, and help build a more equitable and sustainable city for all. Please join us by registering below!
