    A: For MP Jonathan Wilkinson:

The Federal government has declared a climate emergency.
What plans does it have to transfer all fossil fuel subsidies to solar/wind/geothermal power? And…. how quickly does it plan to make this change, given the urgency of the climate emergency.

Q: What Green & Just Recovery question would you like to ask to M.P. Jonathan Wilkinson, M.L.A. Bowinn Ma, and/or North Vancouver Councillor Jessica McIlroy?
A: For the Hon. Jonathan Wilkinson:
    1) The Chinese Communist Party has been very aggressive in their quest to dominate the world and very hostile with other countries including Canada. The FBI director Christopher Way has mentioned the threat from economic espionage from China within the US boarders. Recently, several research academics have been caught working for China passing along intellectual property. Canada welcomes several Chinese immigrants. Considering we have much weaker intelligence agencies then the US, how do we ensure we are not welcoming thousands of Chinese spies into our country? Note: I already know that immigrants are important to the country, no need to mention that in your response.
    2) In your article titled “How I did it”, you mention that the best way to protect intellectual property in China is to keep on investing in research in Canada. In other words, keep on making your technology better as it will get stolen in China. Do you think it is fair for Canadian companies to lose their technological advantage every time they want to access the Chinese market? Do you think the espionage that coincided with the downturn of Nortel and the rise of Huawei was fair to Canadians? Most importantly, you mentioned that you wanted to run for government because you wanted to do things differently then the Harper government. What have you been doing differently outside being less fiscally responsible?
    3) Several satellite families making the bulk of their money outside Canada have homes in BC. Huawei executive Meng has two multi-million dollar homes here. Canadian citizen Sun Qian sentenced to 8 years in China lived part time in BC and has a successful business in Beijing where I suppose most of her income comes from. The average rental price in Vancouver for a 2 bedroom apartment is $2,922. How do you expect a young professional netting 60,000 a year, after years of education, paying 36,000 dollars in rent, to be able to have a decent quality of life in this city? How do you think it feels to use all your savings to come up with a down payment for an apartment, pay 20,000 dollars in income taxes each year, and see satellite families living in multi-million dollar homes, with luxurious vehicles in the garage, paying way less in income taxes and placing their kids in our public schools? Most importantly, why is the federal government not supporting the local government in cracking down in money laundering and getting rid of the Quebec investor program that more than 90% end up in BC buying multi-million dollar homes?
    M.L.A. Bowinn Ma:
    1) Keep up the great work!
    2) Where do you believe we should draw the line between the freedom to place signs in whatever language you would like in public versus giving the right for the immigrants that learned either English, French or both and to the native Canadians in understanding what’s written in public? Do you think people that grew up in Canada and BC should be able to understand public signs especially in cities like Richmond, Burnaby, Vancouver and increasingly in North Vancouver? Do you think it’s offensive and overall healthy to the community when one group decides to communicate in public exclusively among themselves in their own language excluding everyone else?

Q: What Green & Just Recovery question would you like to ask to M.P. Jonathan Wilkinson, M.L.A. Bowinn Ma, and/or North Vancouver Councillor Jessica McIlroy?
A: For the Hon. Jonathan Wilkinson:
    1) How does he reconcile relaxing the new clean fuel standard until 2026 with Canada’s commitment to addressing climate change? This rollback is an over-reaction in terms of its duration.
    2) What will the federal government be doing to stop the coal mine proposals that are under consideration at the provincial level?
    3) Rather than using taxpayer money to support a dying industry (Ie purchasing the TMX) can the federal government money towards large-scale green infrastructure projects which will provide employment, boost the economy, and transition us away from fossil fuels? The vast majority of the public want action on the climate file and we look to our leaders to make that happen.
    4) Other countries (Germany, Denmark) have started to introduce legislation on Ecocide. Will Canada do the same?
    5) Can the federal government move to providing more support to local agriculture which embraces biodiversity. Traditional indigenous farming practice can be used as a gold standard, for they have been stewards of these lands for generations.

My final question to all panel members:
Would they support a citizens assembly on climate change as implemented by the UK and France? (These are an important way to engage the public and take important decisions out of the hands of politicians.)

Sorry for the length of this!

A: for M.P. Jonathan Wilkinson: Why is the federal government continuing projects like Trans Mountain Pipeline expansion’s construction that bring not only COVID-19 risk to the Indigenous communities but also ignoring countless calls for justice for MMIWG? What is your government doing in response to that?

Q: What Green & Just Recovery question would you like to ask to M.P. Jonathan Wilkinson, M.L.A. Bowinn Ma, and/or North Vancouver Councillor Jessica McIlroy?
    A: Question for Minister Wilkinson:
First, I want to acknowledge and thank the Fed. Gov. for the widespread, and unprecedented, support it has been providing Canadians people and businesses throughout the on-going Covid-19 crisis.
Looking forward, and in light of the fact that (1) GHG emissions in Canada have not been reduced after 5 year of Liberal Government, (2) ongoing lapses of judgment from the PM (WE being the latest), (3) broken promises (i.e electoral reform), should I trust the Liberals to implement effective climate measures now…? And if the answer is yes, what are the measurable & accountable steps you are going to take and when? so to “flatten the CO2 curve” beyond current 2030 and 2050 targets?
