Bill C-5 Phone Zap!

Carney’s government is about to ram through Bill C-5, an omnibus bill that would fast-track major projects deemed to be “in the national interest.” This legislation will allow the government to pre-approve major projects, shorten their review process and exempt these projects from federal law, putting Indigenous rights at risk, sidestepping environmental protections and undermining labour laws — all to support the profits of resource extraction companies at the expense of frontline communities.
Ramming through sweeping legislation with no time for discussion or sober second thought sets an alarming precedent. Indigenous leaders and opposition MPs have called out the Liberals’ hasty approach, and warned that the bill grants government unchecked power.
With the bill set to be voted on by Friday, this week is our chance to speak out. We need to tell our MPs and Senators that families oppose Bill C-5 and demand that it not be passed in its current form. We must also make it clear that we stand against the fast-tracking of sweeping legislation, without debate or public engagement. This is not democracy.
