Moving the needle on climate action is more important than ever. Wildfires, heat waves, and floods are devastating our communities, driving up costs for groceries, utilities, insurance and other everyday expenses. These are just a few ways climate change is directly impacting our wellbeing and our wallets. And the demand for change is strong! The majority of British Columbians (74 per cent!) want our government to do more on climate change.
But our elected officials are doing the exact opposite!
- Across BC: Our government is approving new gas terminals, (LNG) fracking wells, and pipelines. Not only will these projects increase pollution in B.C. and fuel climate change, the global gas market is already set to decline. By pouring money into a shrinking market, we risk wasting public funds.
- Here in Vancouver: Our City Council is on the verge of rolling back our city’s most important climate solution by bringing fracked gas back into new building construction. Right now, buildings are responsible for about 55% of the city’s greenhouse gas pollution! Using clean energy to power new homes will reduce our emissions, and protect our health and future, all at the same or lower cost than fracked gas.
On Friday, September 20, join thousands of families, students, teachers, elders, youth, advocates and activists on unceded xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) lands — Vancouver — as we tell our representatives that enough is enough. Stop trading our bright futures for gas industry profits!
With many Metro Vancouver public schools closed for Pro-D Day, we warmly invite families with children of all ages to see democracy in action and raise their voices for change.

Vancouver Climate Strike 2024
12:00pm: We make signs at City Hall — north side with steps; some free art supplies provided
1:00pm: We welcome the community — with host nation welcome by Manuel Strain, 2-Spirit artist from the lands and waters of the xʷməθkʷəyəm (Musqueam), Simpcw and Syilx peoples; and a speech from Grade 11 student, Delara Reporter.
1:30pm: We march together — with musical performances by Folk Song Society, Solidarity Notes, Left Coast Labour Choir, Rhythm Rebellion, and Carnival Band along the route.
2:45pm: We connect with community at the Vancouver Art Gallery — featuring a welcome by Sun Dance Chief Rueben George of the Tsleil-Waututh Nation; special guest appearance by singer-songwriter Billy Bragg; performances by Indigenous Women Rise Up, Ndidi Cascade and Powys HJ; a speech by environmental organizer and Dogwood Campaigner Ashley Zarbatany; plus a children’s activity booth.
Together, let’s get loud. Let’s get big. Let’s show our policymakers, from City Hall to the BC Legislature to Parliament Hill, what the majority want:
Climate action now!
- Stop new oil and gas projects today
- Keep gas out of new buildings
- Protect people, nature, and Indigenous rights
This youth-led demonstration will be vibrant, safe and family-friendly! With Metro Vancouver public schools closed for Pro-D Day, we warmly invite families with children of all ages to see democracy in action and raise their voices for change. On top of live performances and inspiring speeches, families will enjoy a special children’s activity space at the Vancouver Art Gallery!
