This September, thousands of Canadians will take to the streets as part of the Global Climate Strike and call for bold investment in a green, healthy future for everyone, and a rapid transition away from our dangerous dependence on fossil fuels.
We know that parents across the country are behind this movement, even if they can't be there in person, or aren't near an organized strike.
For those who want to show their support for the many youth and communities taking action, we've put together a quick easy action for you to take.
With the possibility of a federal election any time and MPs returning from summer holidays, this is a critical time to make your voice heard and push for strong climate policies at the national level. Here's how you can do it
1. Tell your MP you support the climate strikers and want to see bold action now.
2. Ask for a meeting with your MP
Meeting with your local MP can be a really valuable way to build a relationship and ensure your ideas and concerns are listened to. We've repeatedly heard from other parents that these meetings are worthwhile. As our elected leaders head back to parliament, now is the time to tell them what you want.
Here’s how to schedule a meeting with your MP and share your perspective as a parent:
- Find your MP here.
- Send an email invitation asking for a meeting. Here’s a template you can use.
- Use this draft agenda to guide your meeting and speaking points. Need help to prepare, or want to connect with other parents for your meeting? Reach out to [email protected] to schedule a 1:1 meeting.
- Follow-up with a thank you email and iterate your main asks.
- Tell us how it went! We’re always interested in hearing about your experiences as a parent taking climate action. Share an update here.
